Georgia man faces felony charge for airport vandalism
HA!!! I used to work with this guy at my last company. This doesn't surprise me at all. He's the reason I can't touch hefeweizen beer to this day.
Not sure how a touchscreen LCD costs $15,000 though. That's really expensive.

Johann Hari: Republicans, religion and the triumph of unreason - Johann Hari, Commentators - The Independent
Great article about how the right can make up blatant falsehoods and get away with it. My favorite quote from the article is below:
Johann Hari: Republicans, religion and the triumph of unreason - Johann Hari, Commentators - The Independent: "These increasingly frenzied claims have become so detached from reality that they often seem like black comedy. The right-wing magazine US Investors' Daily claimed that if Stephen Hawking had been British, he would have been allowed to die at birth by its 'socialist' healthcare system. Hawking responded with a polite cough that he is British, and 'I wouldn't be here without the NHS'."

Geeky Rare-Earth Magnets Repel Sharks
Geeky Rare-Earth Magnets Repel Sharks: "Divers and swimmers may thrill to the idea of shark safeguards. However, before you rush out to buy neodymium magnets to create your own shark-repelling gear, Herrmann cautions that the magnets appear to have an effective range of only 10 inches. Also, you'd need to align the magnetic poles outward and keep the magnets from clicking together, and once you had the necessary 10 to 20 pounds of magnets all over your body, you'd sink. So, at a cost of about $5 a magnet, you could theoretically turn yourself into a $400 shark-safe anchor at the bottom of the sea."

Shark Conservation Act of 2009!
Good news on the shark front!
From the Oceana org:
The House of Representatives passed the Shark Conservation Act of 2009 (H.R. 81) yesterday. This bill would require sharks to be landed with their fins still naturally attached, which allows for better enforcement and data collection in stock assessments and quota monitoring.
Below is a statement from Beth Lowell, federal policy director at Oceana, an international marine conservation organization dedicated to protecting and restoring the world's oceans.
The Shark Conservation Act will improve existing laws that were originally intended to prevent shark finning. This legislation will also allow the U.S. to take action against countries whose shark finning restrictions are not as strenuous, labeling the U.S. as a continued international leader in shark conservation.
Oceana now looks to the Senate for fast action to enact the Shark Conservation Act into law. It is time for the U.S. to end shark finning once and for all.
Background:
Tens of millions of sharks are caught globally for just their fins each year. During the finning process, sharks are typically hauled up on deck, their fins sliced off and the animals thrown back to sea, often still alive.

Interesting TED talk from Richard Dawkins. He's not the best speaker in this as he's basically reading the whole time, but the content is really cool and fascinating.

Mosquito Ringtones
In case you haven't heard about the mosquito ringtones, they are very high pitched tones that older people simply can't hear/recognize. I thought I had pretty good ears still at a lively 32 years old, but sadly, the concerts and rock music have taken their toil.
The site below has a play button for each tone. See how many you can hear. I can hear 15khz but not 16khz. My mind wants to hear it, but I really don't think I can.
So much for buying speakers and headphones that rock the 22khz range!

Graham Barker's Navel Fluff Collection
Wow, people spent a lot of time collecting naval fluff and even researching it!
I am a pro navel fluff generator. I'm pretty sure I can create navel fluff without even wearing a shirt. I'm that good.
