Just finished tallying my numbers for kiteboarding in 2009. 2009 felt like a really bad year for SoCal wind and my numbers show it.

There were a lot of personal and work related changes in 2009 that may have taken their toil on my days kiteboarding, but they do not make up for the massive change from the years before.

Here they are from 2007. 2006 seems to be missing in my notes, I'll have to dig those up.

Let's hope 2010 gets better!!! I'm so much happier and more productive when I get more water time!

Good news on the shark front!

From the Oceana org:

The House of Representatives passed the Shark Conservation Act of 2009 (H.R. 81) yesterday. This bill would require sharks to be landed with their fins still naturally attached, which allows for better enforcement and data collection in stock assessments and quota monitoring.

Below is a statement from Beth Lowell, federal policy director at Oceana, an international marine conservation organization dedicated to protecting and restoring the world's oceans.

The Shark Conservation Act will improve existing laws that were originally intended to prevent shark finning. This legislation will also allow the U.S. to take action against countries whose shark finning restrictions are not as strenuous, labeling the U.S. as a continued international leader in shark conservation.

Oceana now looks to the Senate for fast action to enact the Shark Conservation Act into law. It is time for the U.S. to end shark finning once and for all.

Background:
Tens of millions of sharks are caught globally for just their fins each year. During the finning process, sharks are typically hauled up on deck, their fins sliced off and the animals thrown back to sea, often still alive.

In case you haven't heard about the mosquito ringtones, they are very high pitched tones that older people simply can't hear/recognize. I thought I had pretty good ears still at a lively 32 years old, but sadly, the concerts and rock music have taken their toil.

The site below has a play button for each tone. See how many you can hear. I can hear 15khz but not 16khz. My mind wants to hear it, but I really don't think I can.

So much for buying speakers and headphones that rock the 22khz range!

Don't worry, she's totally fine. Had a bad headache and perhaps the nurses where she was working overreacted! We were stuck in the ER for almost 3 hours! She even got a very embarrassing ambulance ride from the hospital she was working at to the ER. I think she just wanted to flirt with the 20 year old EMTs.

Are you effing kidding me?!?! Seriously, what's the matter with America? Wake up! McCain/Palin is a bad ticket! They are both nuts and will continue to drive this country into ruin. I am completely baffled by how the addition of Sarah Palin can help this ticket! Do you seriously think she would do a good job as President if called upon?

Read my previous posts. Look up her record. Wake the hell up! Palin is no better than any other random political person taken from a long list of terrible conservatives. Hell, you could pick any man or woman off the street and get an equally competent and arguably better representative to lead this country.

What scares me most is if Americans really do want these sorts of crooks and liars running the country, where are we headed? We are no longer top dog in the world. We will be surpassed and destroyed by any country that can think beyond a 6th grade education.

No, on second thought, that's not the scary part. I have to believe that people don't want these people in power. They will vote for these candidates based on bad information, marketing, and lies. Good people, people who genuinely want good things for America and the world are being duped by world class marketing campaigns. Shame on the Republican party for putting America in this situation. For not talking about policy and hyping hyper-nationalism. For raping the common man to better business' bottom line while convincing us that they are looking out for our best interests. For using religious dogma and belief to their own benefit. And for doing this all with a smile on their face, their fingers crossed behind their backs, and their wallets getting fatter as our country descends into some of it's darkest days.

In case any of my 3 readers are wondering why my blog is so quiet these days, it has a lot to do with Twitter. Twitter is a micro-blogging service that allows users to post 140 character posts and allows other users to subscribe to these short posts and receive them a number of different mediums (web, SMS, IM). As annoying as I find most Twitter posts, I'm strangely drawn to it. I've tried to kick my Twitter habit and return to this blog, but it's just so easy to post these short updates.

The History channel is now dead to me. Caught a horrible show on Doomsday 2012. It's filled with horrible 'facts' that are easy to check out and show they are actually crappy theories laid out nutcases. The show doesn't really tell you that though, instead, it opts to call the few scientists they do interview as "skeptics" (said with a very derogatory tone) while presenting ridiculously vague prophecies as very specific historical events.

I have zero respect for the History channel at this point. To present this garbage as fact is terribly disingenuous and fuels massive waste of time and waste of cognitive surplus in conspiracy theorists. Not to mention the time wasted trying to prove all the logical fallacies and flat out wrong facts to these people, who now have a TV show to point to and say, "the History channel said it's true!"

I seem to have forgotten to blog this. Good stuff about sunscreen and what's bad for you. I have switched the sunscreen I use on my face to a really good Blue Lizard Zinc-based block. It works great! I still use a spray for the rest of my body because it's quick and easy and even if the chemicals are bad, I doubt they are worse than cancer.
